Can books change lives? Follow the quiet revolution of social bibliotherapy - where literature gives rise to wellbeing. This short film explores the deep emotional impact of reading aloud with others, and how stories can mend minds, lift spirits and bring people together.
Filmed and edited by Nick Agafonoff - Authentic Video - this 26 minute documentary film captures the story of Shared Reading NSW, the inspiration of Blue Mountains Citizen of the Year 2025 - Christopher Smith. The film backgrounds Christopher’s journey to create and grow a bibliotherapy community to help overcome isolation and loneliness and to build meaningful connections and relationships between people.
Whether you're a book lover, mental health advocate, or just curious - please join us for the premiere screening of 'Life, the Universe & Stories' and experience how words can become medicine and change communities.
The film screening will be followed by Q&A with Christopher Smith. Complimentary tea and coffee will be provided.
Entry is by donation to support the community work of Shared Reading NSW. You can make a donation with your ticket registration or donate in-person on the day. If you would like to donate on the day, nominate your amount with the number of tickets and select 'cash payment' at the checkout. If you do not want to make a donation, you can enter a zero when asked for your donation amount.
